Thank You For An Amazing Season 78

Updated: Aug 28

As the air teases us with a crisp feeling of Fall–summer is officially drawing to a close in the Black Hills. With this change in the air, we have officially wrapped up Season 78 at the Black Hills Playhouse.

This season was truly electric and marks another memorable summer of theatre in the Black Hills. We thank everyone who became A Part of Our Worlds as our artists created these dynamic productions and audiences immersed themselves in the stories. So many amazingly talented individuals helped us bring these productions to life. We thank our Season 78 Company for their hard work–from behind the scenes to curtain call, every one of you made this season magic. To meet our Season 78 full company, you can view this season’s playbill here.

We thank our sponsors for supporting our mission to bring engaging theatre to all. We couldn’t put together such an amazing season without the support of these fantastic individuals and businesses. Without their investments, ticket prices would be higher, and fewer artists could be employed. You can view the full list of Season 78 Sponsors here.

And last, but certainly not least we want to thank YOU, the audience for joining us in Custer State Park this summer! Your energy makes the Playhouse come to life and shapes unforgettable memories for every single company member who works hard to bring you an amazing show. Thank you for joining us, and we can’t wait to see you next summer.

The Play That Goes Wrong kicked off Season 78, and the Playhouse was full of laughter every night of this production’s run. We adored bringing this crazy play to fruition. Laughter is truly healing, and what a joy it was to see patrons laugh themselves silly. From our first pay-what-you-can dress rehearsal to our closing show, it was phenomenally fun.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid brought audience members of all ages together. We loved seeing the smiles and expressions on our youngest audience members' faces during this production. Kids don’t often get the experience to observe live performances these days and we were proud to share the artistic vision of the fantastic director and designers of this show. We were also proud to have offered a sensory-friendly performance to ensure everyone could experience the joy of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas saw packed theatres and was another laughter-filled production. Bringing this bawdy and touching true story to life challenged the company to find that balance of how to bring sex for hire, abuse, and the Texas culture of the 70’s to life in a new world. We were happy that people loved Miss Mona and the Sheriff and we suspect it will go down in history as a beloved production from the Playhouse.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time closed the season, bringing awareness to the difficulty of raising a neurodivergent child in an unforgiving world. And can we just say, wow–what a production. We are truly honored to have brought this play to life. From the stand-out set and projection design to the compelling characters the actors inhabited, audiences came away with a small sense of what it might be like to be a neurodivergent person and some of the challenges they face.

We want to thank everyone who shared their experiences with us, whether on social media or in person after a play, thank you for your kind words!
