What an incredible year it has been at the Black Hills Playhouse! From a breathtaking season of performances to celebrating 25 years of transformative educational programming, we are profoundly grateful for your support. This year, you truly became A Part of Our Worlds, making every moment even more special.
As a nonprofit organization, we are inspired daily by the generosity and enthusiasm of our community. Your unwavering support enables us to spark creativity, foster connection, and bring high-quality theatre programs to life. None of this would be possible without you—thank you for helping us make 2024 a year to remember!
Join us as we look back on the magic we created together, both on and off the stage.
Our year began with touring the nation to assemble our Season 78 company!
We brought together a stellar company to help breathe life into our season, Be A Part of Our Worlds. Working with these talented individuals to create such an absolutely electrifying season was a real gift. We are proud to have delivered yet another unforgettable summer of theatre in the Black Hills. Check out this blog to meet two of our Season 78 company members! We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who became A Part of Our Worlds, joining us for four dynamic productions. Audiences were swept away by the stories, and so were we! The magic of Season 78 was made possible by so many amazingly skilled individuals, and we are so thankful for the dedication of our company. For a detailed recap of 2024’s magical summer, read all about the magic of Season 78 here.
We are humbled to have celebrated Black Hills Education’s 25 year anniversary in 2024!
What were once humble beginnings have evolved into changing lives in nearly every corner of the state through engaging and inspiring theatre. Dakota Players Tours visited communities across the state and shared the joy of theatre with hundreds of students in 2024. Check out this story to read about the process of a Dakota Players residency. The Expanding Stage partnered with DakotAbilites to bring engaging workshops for adults with disabilities to life, and together they put on three fantastic productions: The Wizard of Oz, The Snow Queen Part I, and The Snow Queen Part II. BHP Jr. Camps hosted two fun-filled camps for 5th-8th grade and 8th-12th grade students for the eighth year in a row. These campers had an engaging week immersing themselves in bringing Disney’s Frozen Jr. to life, all while making sun-soaked memories at Placerville Camp in the beautiful Black Hills. You can read more about some of our camper’s experiences in this blog.
Even though the curtain officially dropped on our summer stock stage, the magic of theatre never stops at the Black Hills Playhouse. We officially announced Season 79, taking place in the summer of 2025. The Impossible Must Be Possible will offer audiences a strong dose of dreaming big. We are so eager to share next summer’s productions with our audiences! Find out what stories will be coming to life on the BHP stage next summer here! We also held our annual Broadway Raffle, offering participants a brand new prize option to choose from–a Broadway Cruise experience! While excited participants eagerly awaited the announcement of the raffle winner, last year’s winners hit the Big Apple for a week full of all things Broadway!
In October, we had the opportunity to spend an incredible evening with Dennis and Linda Daugaard, steadfast supporters of BHP, who hosted a dinner with friends at the beautiful home of Corey & Karen Brown. They co-hosted this memorable Celebration of 25 Years of BHP Education Programs. People gathered to learn about how we serve people of all ages and all abilities through innovative programs in Sioux Falls, about BHP Performing Arts Summer Camps, and how we take theatre arts education to communities large and small across South Dakota. We are grateful to the Daugaards, to the Browns for inviting us into their home, and for the support of the many guests who donated to our education programs.
And here we now find ourselves at the end of a spectacular year, looking back on so many fond memories. We could not do all we do without the generous support of so many amazing individuals, businesses, and organizations. We can’t thank you enough for the encouragement and support you have given us. During this season of giving we invite you to support our mission as we head into a new year. To learn more about how you can support us, read this blog.
From all of us at the Black Hills Playhouse, we wish you a beautiful rest of 2024, and we will see you in 2025!
