Position: Full-time, twelve month contract. The University of South Dakota seeks an experienced leader to serve as the Executive Director of the Black Hills Playhouse, a 65 year-old semi-professional summer stock theatre company. The Board of Directors and The University of South Dakota seek an individual who has the ability to fundraise and secure production sponsorships and program advertising to market and produce a multi-show season within a set budget, consult and collaborate with the Board of Directors in the hiring of production staff and administrative staff, oversee budgets and finances of the BHP working with the BHP Executive Committee, and work collaboratively with the BHP Board of Directors to continue building on the artistic merits and production values of past seasons. The Executive Director must live in the Rapid City, SD area and be willing to travel as needed. This position appointment is anticipated to begin in October 2010.
Qualifications: Experience in fundraising, donor development, and marketing and public relations. Proven experience working with theatre business operations that includes developing and maintaining annual budgets, ability to select and develop for board approval a multi-season theatre production schedule working with a talented group of individual artists, and running day-to-day operations is required. A background in arts management and/or professional theatre management experience is required. Experience with business management preferred.
